Born in Gilbert Plains, Steve Hawrysh reached a milestone in 1992 - 60 consecutive years in total hockey involvement in Dauphin. He signed his first Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association (Hockey Manitoba) card in 1931-32. As a player, Hawrysh was on three Manitoba championship winners with the Dauphin intermediates. He began coaching in 1952 in Dauphin. Steve Hawrysh was one of the original architects of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
