Born in Brandon, Trent Frayne was better known as "Bill" to his old friends. He began covering sports as a teenager for the Brandon Sun. Then he came to Winnipeg and joined the Canadian Press. In the late 1930s he accepted a position with the sports department of the Winnipeg Tribune. Frayne went to Toronto during World War II and became a columnist for the Globe and Mail. He found time to write many sport and hockey books over the years. He has also contributed to Maclean's, True, The Saturday Evening Post, The Canadian and Weekend Magazines.
