Born in Winnipeg, this defenceman played with the Elmwood Maple Leafs in 1936-37. Sam Southern was a devoted minor hockey coach in the Riverview area of Winnipeg and he touched the lives of many youngsters over the years. He was honoured for his dedication to hockey by having the Sam Southern Arena named after him.
