Born in St. Boniface, Laurent L. (Larry) Desjardins played junior with St. Boniface and the Winnipeg Esquires. "Lefty" was also a fine baseball and football player. He was President and General Manager of the St. Boniface Canadiens. Larry Desjardins was an MLA and Minister of Sport in Manitoba for almost a decade. As Minister of Sport, he played a major role in creating what amateur sport is today in Manitoba.
