Jim played junior with Trail in 1944 and with the Toronto St. Michaels Majors, the 1945 Memorial Cup champions. The next season he was in the NHL with the Toronto Maple Leafs. They had played together at St. Michaels and later became known as the "Gold Dust Twins". In 12 NHL seasons Thomson played on 4 Stanley Cup winners in 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1951. In 1956 he was the Leafs' captain. He was sent to Chicago in 1957-58 and played one season with the Hawks before he retired. In 13 NHL seasons Jim Thomson played 787 games, scored 19 goals, 215 assists, for 234 points.
