Born in Winnipeg, this defenceman played three years in the MJHL with the Winnipeg Rangers, Winnipeg Monarchs and St. James and finished his junior career with the Toronto Marlboros. His pro career of 488 games saw him score 49 goals, 153 assists for 202 points. He played 278 NHL games over a ten year span with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Black Hawks. Ernie Dickens was a member of the 1942 Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs. He died in the late 1950s at Bowmanville, Ontario.
