A leader and executive for many years in amateur hockey, his presidency of the Manitoba Amateur Hockey Association (Hockey Manitoba) from 1927-34 stood as a record for that post. Ed Gilroy also served as Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (Hockey Canada) President from 1934-36.
