Cockburn, Bill

Born in Toronto, his out standing amateur career began in Winnipeg with the junior and senior Tammany Tigers from 1920 to 1926. The goaltender went east and played with the Montreal Victorias who lost the 1928 Allan Cup final to the University of Manitoba. He re turned to Winnipeg and captained the Winnipegs to the 1931 Allan Cup championship. The next year he backstopped the Winnipegs to the Olympic championship in Lake Placid, New York. Also in 1932 he was runner-up for the Crowe Award as Canada's Athlete of the Year. After his playing days Bill Cockburn coached junior and university hockey in Winnipeg.
