Howie Hughes April 4, 1939 - March 26, 2025

The Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame is saddened to hear of the passing of Honoured Member Howie Hughes on March 26, 2025 at the age of 85.
After his Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) season ended with the St. Boniface Canadiens, Hughes was added to the roster of the 1959 Winnipeg Braves, adding a Memorial Cup title to his resume before commencing a 16-year pro career.
A terrific skater, in his first pro season he would help the St. Paul Saints to the 1960 International Hockey League (IHL) Turner Cup title. The next 7 years were spent in the Western Hockey League (WHL), and a year after winning a 1967 WHL title with Seattle Totems, the Los Angeles Kings selected Hughes in the 1967 NHL expansion draft. He'd play 168 games over 3 seasons with the Kings before returning to the WHL. Hughes would eventually wind down his career with a First Team WHL all-star nod with the 1973/74 WHL Portland Buckaroos before retiring after a final season with Seattle Totems in the Central Hockey League (CHL) in 1974/75.
A long-time resident of Seattle, Howie Hughes continued to support youth hockey for many years after retiring from the pro game.
