Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba Bill played defence in the MJHL for the 1940-41 Memorial Cup champion Winnipeg Rangers, and was with the Portage Terriers the following season who were also Memorial Cup winners. A very steady blueliner who played over 500 games in the QSHL, WCMHL, PCHL, WHL, OSHL and with the MSHL Winnipeg Maroons in 1956. In 1950, with Sherbrooke, he was selected to the Quebec Senior Hockey League's sescond all-star team and the following season with Saskatoon was chosen on the WCMHL first all-star squad. Had the distinction of playing with eight first place clubs in his career and never missed the playoffs all the way back to midget hockey.
