Born in Transcona, this centreman played junior hockey with CUAC and the Winnipeg Esquires. He was a replacement player on the 1943 Memorial Cup champion Winnipeg Rangers. In 12 NHL seasons he played for the New York Rangers, was a member of two Stanley Cup winners with Toronto (1949 & `51), and played with Chicago and Boston. A career highlight came in 1949 when he scored the Cup winner for the Leafs. Cal Gardner played 659 games, and had 154 goals, 238 assists, 392 points.
