Final Face Off - George Konik

Konik, George age 79, of Eagan, MN, died Oct. 21, 2016 after battling Parkinson's and dementia for 17 years. He passed peacefully in his sleep. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Ila Konik; his children, Terri Churchill (Joe), Brenda Konik, Jodi Schoenecker (Brad), Brad Konik (Erin); his grandchildren, Sydney, Anna, Rachel, Trevor, Lauren, Kaia, Benjamin, Andrea and Hayden; niece, Donna (Garry), nephew, Ron (Deb); other relatives and many close friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Sam & Mary; sisters, Lena and Tina. George was born and raised in Flin Flon, Manitoba and settled in Minnesota in 1964. In his early years, George spent time in Flin Flon playing baseball, hockey and spending time with his family. After high school, George won the Memorial Cup with the Flin Flon Bombers before attending Denver University. At Denver, George was an All-American Hockey player and won 2 national championships. He went on to play for the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Pittsburgh Penguins and US National Team. George worked as an electrical engineer at Honeywell before starting George Konik Associates in 1974. George loved coaching hockey, golfing and enjoying life to the fullest with his family and friends. He always gave more than he ever asked for in return. He will be missed dearly by so many. A visitation and Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016 at Knights of Columbus, 1114 American Blvd W., Bloomington, MN 55420. Visitation starting at 10 AM with Service at 12 Noon and reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Denver University Hockey Program.
